Ch. Ankhetaten
|
One day while exploring the Committee we noticed a beautiful bay stallion who poked his head over the Dutch door of his stall and were instantly captivated. He seemed eerily familiar and we were drawn to him. We checked the plate on his stall door and went: "ooohhh!!! No wonder he looks familiar!"
His sire is Dorian Shah El Shams and his dam was a lovely daughter of Tammen, whom Ank STRONLY resembles.
After a short debate on whether we should adopt him or not (like we needed Another stallion on the farm) the paper work was filled out and sent off.
And then we waited.
A few weeks later, we were given the good news that the adoption was approved and that Ank was now ours!
I don't know how long Ank had been at the Committee, but he was a real professional. After a cursory examination of the trailer, he climbed on in and rode home happy as could be.
Our head trainer: John Richards took a good look at the new stallion and declared that we had a Western Working horse on our hands. John took it upon himself to take over the full training and conditioning of our new adoptee.
John spent months legging Ank up, creating a bond between himself and the stallion, working on balance and trust.
The two of them would go out for trail rides along the dry creek bed and out into the mountains following cattle trails. For fun they drove cattle and participated in the annual charity cattle penning days. To get Ank used to noise, crowds, and new environments John rode him in the daily "horse parade"; a part of the cities' Rodeo tradition. To change things up, John trained Ank to pull a cart and we entered him into a driving show as part of a two horse team.
After months of just spending time together, getting to know each other, and crafting a bond between each other Ank and John made their show ring debut. In only eight appearances in the HF arenas Ank has earned his Championship title. After a spectacular 2008 show season Ank now stands has one of the best adoptees brought out of the Committee that we have gotten.
2009 looks only to be bigger and better! We are truly fortunate to have adopted such a wonderful young stallion.
